ADvantage television ;)

The IPL and my exams(:P) have kept me glued to the idiot box for the past few days. The IPL, in true business sense has been doing its best to screen advertisements every time they get an opportunity. Unlike last year when advertisements used to be screened at the end of each over, in this edition, they've started doing it between overs as well, not to mention, the strategic timeout which is really nothing but a bumper offer to screen Ads.

But one thing i did notice was the brilliance with which these ads have been conceptualised and shot, true works of brilliance. Infact, these ads are so brilliant that they captivated me to a point where i watch the ipl for its ads and not the other way round. :D

Few ads that really caught my fancy were the PEPSI ad featuring Ranbir Kapoor, MAX NEW YORK LIFE INSURANCE series featuring an upper middle class family, HAVELL'S CABLES & WIRES, VIRGIN MOBILE, VIDEOCON, SAMSUNG ad ft Aamir Khan, IDEA ads ft Abhishek Bachan, AIRTEL ad ft Sharman Joshi and not to forget, the oh so popular VODAFONE Ads featuring the current heartthrobs, the ZOO ZOOS.. ;)

But one AD that really had me in splits, at the same time, had me clapping out loud in appreciation for the creativity and superb integration of humour into it was the HAVELL'S CFL ad. It showed the master of the house plugging in his hair dryer and then suddenly the music starts and the man is seen break dancing his way around the house. the maid sees this and when she comes in contact with him, starts dancing with him. the guy's wife sees him dancing with the maid in a I'M-CHEATING-ON-YOU way and in anger goes and grabs his shoulder. And then they all start dancing.
Enter, guy's hockey stick wielding son. he takes a quick look around and in one quick movement, knocks off the hair dryer from his dad's hand using his hockey stick!!! and then walks off as if nothing happens. And then a voiceover announces "SWITCH TO HAVELL'S CFLs FOR A SHOCKPROOF LIFE"
Considering my extra long narrative, i know i might have made it sound a bit boring, but with a superb background score and brilliant acting, it truly looked extraordinary on screen. :)

i know i might be reading too much into situations here but i feel that these ads in a way give us an insight into the competetive world that is waiting for us out there. "THINK HATKE" is the new mantra now. To survive here, you need to innovate. And innovation doesn't come easy. Thus in a sense, these ads show that in the big, bad world out there, its indeed "Survival of the Fittest". Why i say this is because considering the ads that used to appear on tv a few years back and the ads that seem to be coming out now, there seems to be a huge difference in the way of thinking of the ad film makers. This really is one huge leap for mankind because it shows that now our levels of thinking have been elevated to whole new levels, thus in a sense showing how mankind has evolved over the past few hundred years.

Truly a great sign of what's in store fron Gen Next, in short, you and me.

keep watchin this space for more,

Until my next post, ADIOS!!!

  1. ad film makers need to be applauded because unlike film makers, these people have to convey a similar msg in 30 secs. now how easy is that.
i definitely feel they need more appreciation and here is my way of saying WELL DONE GUYS. kudos. And keep rocking. :)
