pet lover's paradise

For those who didn't find out yet, am referring to MAASKAAN CHAAVADI, more popularly known today as the SUNDAY MARKET.. this bustling market, which is a haven for pet lovers and prospective pet buyers is quietly tucked away in the bylanes of broadway and the most astonishing thing about this market is that it functions only on sundays, hence the name.. :)

I made a trip to MAASKAN CHAAVADI today morn and boy was i stunned.. it was around 9.30 and it was still bustling with activity.. my last trip to maaskaan chaavadi was about 5-6 yrs back and the last time i went there, they had already closed shop by 8.30!!!!!! that's how popular it has become over the past few years..

But one good thing i noticed was that the sale of exotic birds has finally stopped.. last time i went, there were lots of african parakeets, cockatoos, even a couple of scarlet macaws(!!!!!) and other such exotic species on sale.. but as people found out later, lots of birds were being killed while the hunters were tryin to catch them.. this angered the bird activists and subsequently, the government banned the sale of rare species.. it was very satisfying to see that there were no such exotic species on sale today..

Comin back to the point, it was an amazing feeling walking through those small streets surrounded by 100's of people and nearly 1000's of birds and small animals.. there were so many birds and animals on sale, rite from love birds, pigeons, doves, dancing pigeons(read "masakalli" in modern terms), rabbits, ducks, aquarium fishes, white mice(!!!!), quails, fighter cocks, turkeys and something which took me completely by surprise, DOGS!!!!! they were trying to sell a couple of labradors there!!!!!!

On the whole, it was a great feeling to be able to come face to face with so many bird and animal species.. the species they were trying to sell today was acceptable because they are rather mellowed down ones(love birds for example don't stand a chance to survive in the wild cos they are easy targets for bigger birds).. as long as they don't kill rare and endangered species, its totally fine with me.. but i guess, the government, bird activists and law enforcers constantly need to monitor the activities here to avoid further damage to the environment..

But apart from that, this place is totally fun.. its a great place to bring small kids along because they sure will have a whale of a time jus looking at the birds on display there.. i still remember walking through those small bylanes, holding my dad's hand and enthusiastically looking at the bird cages that were stacked all around me.. it certainly makes us appreciate and love nature more..

and yeah, i thought of takin a few pics but decided not to fearing people might mistake me for an undercover journalist or something like that.. :)

as i mentioned in my previous posts, i've got so much spare time now.. but i virtually hit a road block a few days back, not able to come up with anythin worthwhile to post.. but a few hours of roaming around and a few hours in front of the tv has given me a lot of topics to blog about.. you can expect my next post some time soon..

and yeah, before i leave, here's my quote of the day:

so, keep working, keep winning..

sowcarpet: where all good(and bad) things come to a halt!!

ahh, wat comes to your mind when you hear the word "SOWCARPET"?????

Delicious sweets, tasty sandwiches and amazing pani puri.. and for all those regulars out there, the heavenly badam milk you get in KHAKADA RAMPRASAD SWEETS AND SAVOURIES..

Well, now there's a new entrant to this already huge list.. TRAFFIC!!!!!!!

this place is soooo crowded that if you are able to cover one km in ten mins without a single scratch on your vehicle, consider yourself lucky... :)

This residential area is sandwiched between two busy hubs, the WALLTAX ROAD area where a number of cargo and travel offices are located and MINT STREET on which are located al those sweet stalls and sandwich carts and also FLOWER BAZAAR and BUNDER STREET which are famous for its stationary items..

And that is the major reason that this area is so congested..

Adding to all this is the total disrespect for people towards traffic rules.. agreed they are in a rush to reach their destination on time, but so isn't everyone else??? people jus dont understand the concept of living together.. its so rare to see people stopping at signals or driving on the correct side of the road(!!!!) here.
its so difficult to see a vehicle in sowcarpet without a scratch or bump!!!!!!
such is the scenario here..

lolz, riding a vehicle in sowcarpet is more difficult than dodging bullets on a battlefield!!!!!! :P

BOTTOMLINE: if you are looking for a nice, peaceful place to spend the rest of your life, dont even consider SOWCARPET.. this place is surely not for the faint hearted!!! :)

and before i leave, here's my sms pick of the week:

Edhu pannaalum plan panni pannanum

Edhu pannaalum plan panni pannanum, plan pannela naa ippadi dhaan aagum..
aargh, the thinktank of srm, india's no 1 private university are at it again.. models have begun and you guessed it rite, we are being buried alive, YET AGAIN!!!!!!!

I mean who in their right mind would set up a timetable wherein you are expected to finish studying a whole book in half a day's time, go and write it during the first half of the next day.. then delete everything from your memory and memorise a whole new book in the day's second half and then go and write it again the following day.. brilliant!!!! great job guys!!! i mean, we are not mass storage devices(read "PENDRIVES" in simple terms) to be able to store all those data, use it fr an exam, come back home, delete all the contents and then store new data..

We could somehow manage and cover most of the portions but still, we would find it difficult.. and the most disappointing thing is that they include these marks for internals... :(

Well the only good thing that they did was to conduct surprise and cycle tests before the models.. i've atleast got most of the portions covered, but still, it would have been way lot better had we been given a few days of preparation time.. i mean, what's the point in making us study the entire portions in half a day and then giving ten days study leave after that to come and write the same thing all over again.. we could very well write the sem exams as well on the day of the models itself..

My humble request, atleast in the coming years, try and split the 10 days of study hols to one week for models and one week for sem..

Well, i've gotta go now.. as i said, am planning to finish studying the entire book for my maths exam tomo.. jus thought i'd sneak in and vent out my anger..

But i've got promises to keep.. so before i leave, here's my quote of the day:

"I'm a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work, the more luck I have."

This is the one of the best quotes i've come across.. so keep working hard, keep getting luckier..

2012-movie review

Hey guys, jus back from watchin 2012!!!!
A subject that's on everyone's tongue by now, a gripping storyline and out of the world special effects make this movie a sure shot box office hit..

Roland Emmerich & co have done a great job with the script, screenplay and direction.. the cg work definitely deserves special mention.. this film would have definitely sunk without a trace had it not been for the outstanding special fx..
the director has also thrown in a bit of senti dialogues here and there but it works well in moving the plot forward..

But there are a lot of unrealistic and humanly impoSsible sequences in the movie.. for example, the car sequence wherein the entire Curtis family escape an eartquake by driving crazily around in a limo, dodging breaking roads, crumbling houses and falling buildings.. seriously, vijay and suriya's stunts in kuruvi and aadhavan respectively were far more convincing.. :P

And then there's the sequence where they board a plane and Gordon [John Curtis's wife's husband!!!!! :D ] who's a flying trainee successfully manages to get the plane off a crumbling runway and successfully glide it through falling buildings, crumbling skyscrapers and tumbling trains (yet again)..

John Curtis puts all our kollywood heroes to shame by escaping from a trailer that gets caught up in an earthquake, climbing up the crumbling road to which he was clinging on for dear life jus a few seconds ago and then successfully chasing and boarding a plane that is hurtling by at 60 kmph preparing for take off!!!!!

And as if that wasn' enough, 1o mins later, they are at it again, managing to successfully take off a humongous Russian jumbo jet off a runway that is barely 100m long!!!!

But all these glitches apart, the movie was good.. a wholesome entertainer.. am sayin this once again, had it not been for the special fx, this movie would have sunk without a trace.. if the producers of the movie need to thank anyone, it has to be the special fx team.. amazing job guys!!!!!

All good movies seem to linger in our mind even after we leave the movie theatre.. but that didn't quite happen with this movie.. everything about the movie is good, the actors have all done a great job, the script is good, the execution is good, but still it fails to really strike a chord.. something seems to be missing..

i'd give it a 3.5 out of 5..

And here are a few interesting infos from the movie:

1. the entire concept of the world coming to an end is discovered by an indian astro physicist!!!

2. the united states of america is destroyed by massive earthquakes which result in a supersized volcano tht virtually destroys the whole of usa.

3. two massive underwater earthquakes submerge the whole of india in less than 1 hr!!!

And here's another interesting trivia:

For all those people who fear that the world might end in 2012, fear no more.. NASA has confirmed that despite the earth, sun and the end of the milkyway galaxy all lining up in the same line as shown in the film, the world is not gonna get destroyed..
in simple words, we dont die!!!!!!

hols will be here soon.. so will be havin time to catch up on a few more movies.. for more such movie reviews, keep comin back..

watch out this space for more..

until then, adios!!

VELTECH WAS BETTER

Ya, this might sound stupid but there have been times when i felt Veltech was better..
well, srm is generally associated with fun and to be fair it definitely is a hell lot of fun.. but still, there are times when they literally bury you alive with loads of assignments, record work and tests.. and the most disturbing thing is they all happen to fall on the same day.. i mean, what is a person supposed to do when he is asked to write and submit 10 experiments in two days time.. this is humanly not possible, what with us practically spending twelve hrs on college and travel itself, but still we have no other option but to comply cos they blackmail us with internal marks!!!!! ~!$#!$^&$&
The last two days have been really hectic with loads of asignment and record submissions.. i've totally had only about 6 hrs of proper sleep over the past two days, going to sleep by 2 and getting up again by 5 to get ready for another gruelling day of assignments, record submissions, et al.. i think this is where veltech was much better because everythin was so well organised there.. here its jus a rush of record work as we near the end of the sem..
but these things apart, coll has always been fun.. it was a huge culture shock having shifted from VELTECH to SRM but its been fun, mingling with people here..
cheers to those at srm!!!!!
adios!!!

THIS CAN'T BE TRUE!!!

Hey ppl, this is my first midnight post.. it may sound absurd but it is true, i've never really stayed up so late!!! i've been more of an early to bed, early to rise kinda guy and stayin up late was definitely not my cup of tea.. so it came as quite a surprise to me when i saw the clock strike 12..

Well, the reason i had to stay up so late was an absurdly huge english project that has to be sumitted by tomo.. well to be frank, it was not that big considering the time that was given to us.. :) but with so many other works still pending, i didn't really have enough time to work on this project.. i started off this monday collecting data and ended up finishing most of it yest, only to realise that the format was completely wrong.. i was left speechless, one week of hard work( nt that hard really, but it sounds good whn u exaggerate :p ) gone down the drain.

That left me with two options, either edit the project that i had so nearly completed or start off on a completely new one.. jus to be on the safer side, i started off on a new project that was connected to my old one..
with a fresh mind and a new topic, time jus flew by.. 4 gruelling hrs on the computer, compiling, copying, pasting, editing and whola,
my project is finally ready!!! jus need to get it printed and spiral bound..
the project has come out really well, hope everyone likes it..

And yeah, forgot to mention, i tried to sneak in a post from our coll lab today morn.. i managed to sign in an al, but unfortunately wasn't able to post anythin cos our lab incharges were unusually alert today.. :)

Before i leave, here's my quote of the day:

it is because we do not dare that they are difficult.

MAESTRO MAGIC

Words fail to describe him, and time stops when you see him in action, he truly is a genius when he wields the willow..

yes ppl, this is my tribute to the living legend, the maestro,

SACHIN RAMESH TENDULKAR!!!!

A true gentleman both on and off the field, sachin tendulkar has surely won more than a few million hearts.. he has truly made INDIA proud.. my salutation to this pocket sized dynamo..

jai hind!!!

P.S.
Sachin jus completed 17000 runs in odi matches, the most by any person to have ever held a bat in his hand.. a truly great feat..
no wonder a hoarding at perth cricket ground read
"do all your crimes when sachin is batting,
cos even GOD is watchin him play"
kudos to the man who made cricket a religion in India.. cheers!!!!!
UPDATED 3 HRS LATER
by the way, jus thought i'd come back and edit this post.. sachin jus played a truly sensational knock of 175 to bring india close to a mamooth victory only to depart 19 runs short of victory, finally ending up watchin from the pavilion, India going down by 3 runs to an Australian team that had their ghosts scared out of them by the maestro.. it surely must have been heartbreak for him, especially after that amazing knock..
the Indian lower order could have done better, especially JADEJA who seems to be running into bad form, literally!!!! :D
lol, He's got himself run out in two consecutive games..
Anyways, cricket is one such game where anything can happen in a fraction of a second.. India seemed to be cruising to victory at one stage, only to end up choking at the death overs..
One interesting observation though, MUNAF PATEL seems to have improved his batting!!! :D
lol, i never expected him to be glidin the ball to thirdman for a single an al, really came as a pleasant surprise for me..
anyways, cheer up guys. wishing u all the best for the future matches..
adios!!!!!

hey ppl, this post is gonna be really short.. this week is gonna be really really hectic with loads of assignments, projects and tests lined up.. i've jus started work on a project that was supposed to have been finished by now.. and to make matters worse, i've got two tests on the same day.. i have no idea on how am gonna finish all these on time..

jus hope things work out well.. will be back on this space some time soon..

and before i sign out, here's my
